Thank you to everyone who came out to vote for me in this election. I'm disappointed we came up short as I would have loved serving our city and our students on the School Committee. At the same time, I can't help taking pride in our campaign.

I'm proud of how many friends, new and old, stepped up to help get out the message of my campaign, everyone who held a sign, or wrote a stack of postcards to voters. I’m proud of all the other candidates, those who won and those who didn't, who stood willing to serve the City of Somerville.

To my competitor, Michele: I'm also proud that our campaigns combined to generate more Ward 3 votes for School Committee than in the last several cycles. Phenomenal job. You have an admirable commitment to public service, a deep knowledge of education practice, and a joyful and magnetic way about you. It was a pleasure bumping into you out on the doors on Summer Street, Putnam Street, Cambria Street. I'm wishing you great success on the School Committee. Our kids and our schools are counting on you.

My list of thank yous is endless. Thank you to my family for propping me up and my team for driving me forward. Thank you to supporters who came out for weekend canvasses, rain or shine. Thank you to my guides along the way who shared invaluable wisdom or nudged me back on course. Thank you to the people of Somerville for opening your doors and sharing your thoughts on our schools and what our kids need.

If you have ever considered a run for office, I will say it was harder than I expected and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Please get involved in a local campaign either as a candidate or committee volunteer. If you have questions, reach out. Our community, our country, our democracy needs you.

I learned so much about so much and I'm excited to apply what I've learned. And I could deliver pizzas in Ward 3 without a map, maybe with my eyes closed. I don't know what's next for me. I do know this campaign reignited a drive towards action I will have to apply somewhere. I'll be out there soon supporting our community and working towards good. Be well, stay warm, hug someone you love, go meet a new neighbor, and eat more ice cream!

With gratitude,
Jessie
