About
Hello!
I am a Somerville resident of more than 20 years, and my kids have attended the Somerville Public Schools at the Argenziano for eight years, ever since my daughter entered the City’s pre-Kindergarten program offering. My husband, Aaron, and I have a family business in Union Square – Gracie’s Ice Cream – that supports schools across the district through hosting fundraisers and field trips. I am deeply invested in this vibrant city and its public schools.
For 15 years, I’ve worked in educational philanthropy focused on early education and closing K-12 opportunity gaps. The school committee’s responsibilities parallel my professional responsibilities. My job is to convene Boards of Directors around mission and funding priorities, to identify promising programs, and then monitor their implementation. Afterward, I work with grantees to evaluate program success. From beginning to end, I provide financial and budgetary oversight. Part of the challenge of my work is building consensus among varied interests and finding alignment in stakeholders’ vision and goals.
This is why I am uniquely qualified for this role.
I am running for School Committee because now, more than ever, our education systems are at risk. As a parent and a citizen, I am motivated to step up by threats to education and the state of our country.
I bring the knowledge, experience, and dedication required to tackle many of the most critical issues facing the families and people of Somerville:
Leadership
Ran a grassroots nonprofit offering ESL education and two-generation family literacy programs
Training
Hold an MBA in social policy and have on-the-ground training with group process facilitation
Connection to Our Schools
Serve on Argenziano’s School Improvement Council and plan PTA-sponsored school event
Child Development and Education
Professional background in interdisciplinary approaches to early childhood services, and history of working with education nonprofits addressing opportunity gaps
Advocacy
Worked on advocacy campaigns to 1) fight for universal child care in New Hampshire, and 2) elevate the profile of international women peacebuilders
